Retail Fit
Retail fit is a softer, slimmer, side-seamed T-shirt style built to drape and feel like a mall-brand shirt rather than a boxy promotional blank.
Retail fit blanks use side-seamed rather than tubular construction, lighter ringspun or combed cotton in the 4.2 to 4.5 ounce range, a tighter armhole, and a body that tapers slightly at the waist. Hems are typically coverstitched flat rather than left with a raw single-needle finish, all details lifted straight from how mall apparel brands cut their basics.
Next Level 3600 and Bella+Canvas 3001 are the reference points shops reach for when a client asks for that soft brand after wearing a friend's shirt — nine times out of ten they mean a retail-fit blank, not a special finish added after printing. Set next to a Gildan 5000 promotional tee, the difference in drape and hand is obvious within seconds of picking either one up.
Spec retail fit for apparel launches, brand merch competing with mall clothing on a store shelf, or any line meant to be worn as a fashion piece rather than handed out at an event. The blank costs noticeably more per unit than a classic promotional tee, but the perceived value on a finished garment more than covers the gap for anything sold at retail price.
Buyers frequently think retail fit describes where a shirt is sold rather than how it's built. It's a construction and fabric category available wholesale to any print shop — nothing about the name limits it to shirts sold in a storefront.
