Glow-in-the-Dark Ink

Glow-in-the-dark ink is a phosphorescent plastisol that charges under light and glows visibly in darkness for twenty minutes to several hours.

Glow-in-the-dark ink is a specialty plastisol carrying a phosphorescent pigment, typically strontium aluminate or an older zinc sulfide formula, that absorbs ambient or UV light and slowly releases it as a visible glow once the room goes dark, lasting anywhere from twenty minutes to a few hours depending on pigment grade and how long it charged beforehand.

Event organizers reach for it on glow-run 5K shirts, Halloween tees for kids, and haunted-house merch, anywhere the shirt needs to do something once the lights drop. In daylight, the pigment itself usually reads as a pale, chalky off-white or faint green, which surprises buyers expecting a bold, colorful print that also happens to glow.

Pros print glow-in-the-dark ink thick, often stacked over a white underbase, since a thin deposit charges weak and fades fast once the lights go out. The pigment is somewhat coarse and opaque, so fine detail below about an eighth of an inch tends to blur; bold, simple shapes hold up best both in daylight and once charged.

The mistake buyers make most: expecting a vivid, saturated daytime print that also glows at night. Glow-in-the-dark ink doesn't work that way, the daytime look is always washed-out and pale, and the real color only shows once the shirt has charged and the room is dark.
