Nylon Catalyst (Bonding Agent)

Nylon catalyst is a bonding additive mixed into ink so plastisol adheres to slick synthetics like nylon jackets and bags instead of peeling off.

Nylon catalyst, also called a bonding agent, is an isocyanate-based additive mixed into plastisol at a small percentage right before printing, and it carries a limited pot life once activated, often just a few hours before it starts to gel in the bucket. Standard plastisol has almost nothing to grip on a tightly woven, low-porosity nylon surface; the catalyst chemically bonds the ink to the fiber instead of just resting on top of it.

This is why printing a logo on a nylon jacket, tote bag, or ripstop windbreaker costs more and takes longer than the same job on a cotton tee, the catalyzed ink has a short working window, so shops mix only what they'll use that shift, and the extra chemistry and waste get built into the price. We've had entire buckets go unusable by lunch because a run got delayed and the catalyst kicked before the screens were ready.

Printers test adhesion with a tape-pull or wash test before committing to a full run, since bond strength varies by nylon coating and garment finish. Lead times on nylon jobs often run longer specifically to accommodate small-batch catalyzed mixing rather than one big ink bucket for the whole order.

Buyers sometimes assume any plastisol will work on a nylon bag the same way it does on a T-shirt; without catalyst, that print can peel off in sheets within days, no matter how well it cured.
