Plus Size
Plus size is extended women's sizing above a standard 2X, typically graded with proportionally more room through the hip and bust than a straight size-up would give.
1X, 14-16, up through 4X and beyond — plus size sizing adds proportionally more room through the hip and bust relative to the shoulder than a brand's standard curve, because the body it's built for doesn't scale up in a straight line from a size medium.
The problem for buyers is availability, not sizing math: plenty of trendy fashion-tee styles a client falls in love with simply stop at an XL or 2X, with no plus option in the same print, fabric, or fit. We've had to tell more than one bride or event planner that the exact tee they picked for the whole group doesn't come in plus size, which means either switching the whole order to a different base style or splitting the group across two garments.
Check plus size availability before finalizing a group order's base style, not after — cross-reference the supplier's size chart for that specific style rather than assuming their catalog-wide sizing applies, since this sizing is frequently a separate SKU with its own cut, not just an added size on the same pattern. If a style doesn't offer it, pick a replacement early so the print file and mockup match what everyone actually receives.
The common mistake is assuming plus size and extended sizing mean the same thing — extended sizing can simply mean a straight-size pattern graded up in a larger run, while true plus sizing uses a separate block cut for a different body proportion, and treating them interchangeably is how an order ends up with mismatched fits across a group photo.
